I Made Underwear.

I've been wanting to make my own underwear for ages, but was waiting until a few t-shirts of mine were ready to be upcycled. That stretchy, well-worn cotton makes for some incredibly comfy undies, and they cost basically nothing to make. I did a color-block thing here, but next I'd like to make something flowery and pretty, maybe with some elastic lace around the edges.

All in all, they took me an hour, and were incredibly satisfying. I have something wearable, functional, and cute, that provides almost instant gratification, unlike making dresses, pants, blouses, etc. Ideally, I'd like to see my panty drawer full of handmade-by-me undies.

  1. These are totally adorable! I've wanted to make my own underwear for years but am a bit intimidated by the whole process. Do you have any patterns or instructions on these you could share? I'd love to give 'em a try.

    1. It's so nice to see you here! Making a pair of these is so easy, so long as you use very stretchy cotton. I basically cut up a pair of old underwear that I love the fit of for my "pattern", then traced the pieces onto the fabric I was using, making sure to include about a 1/2" seam allowance. Oh, and I also doubled up the crotch pieces, one for the outside and one for the inside lining. You can find a very similar idea here: http://angrychicken.typepad.com/angry_chicken/2009/02/this-might-be-weird-but-oh-well.html. Good luck. :)

    1. Milla,
I may do a blog post with details, since so many people seem curious! And I did not use a jersey foot for this, simply for lack of having one (I would not recommend this for obvious reasons). xo
